Manufactured between 1963 and 1966, the Alvis TE21 was an updated version of the 1958 TD21. Among the last of the coachbuilt cars, the body of the Three Litre Alvis saloon was manufactured between 2 houses. Graber, based in Switzerland, had enjoyed a long relationship with Alvis yet was responsible for only 12 examples. The remaining 340 vehicles were produced by the London based Mulliner Park Ward, a company that had been formed from the merger of 2 Rolls Royce subsidiaries in 1961. Whilst Mulliner concentrated on the saloon versions, dropheads were entrusted to Tickford who had extensive experience building similar vehicles for other marques.
However, with its high grade leather upholstery, polished walnut facia, power steering, and five speed syncromesh gearbox, the TE21 could easily be considered a luxury product.
To the rear, Mulliner crafted extended wings which encompassed inline light clusters, not dissimilar to the Aston Martin DB4 that had entered production in 1958. The interior was well equipped with a radio, cigar lighter, and well organised instrumentation held within a centre console. Of the 352 vehicles produced, Ken Cameron (TE21 and TF21 Model Secretary) estimated that 63% remained in 2003. Of the 8 model variations, only an experimental saloon produced by Mulliners has failed to be preserved.
